World’s oldest intact shipwreck discovered as Greek ‘Odysseus’ vessel dating back 2,400 years is found at bottom of Black Sea. The ship was discovered over 1.3 miles under water on the seabed where the water is oxygen free, around 50 miles off the coast of Bulgaria. Assumed to be a Greek trading vessel, the ship was so well preserved because it was buried deep in the Black Sea in anoxic (oxygen-deprived) water. Without oxygen corroding the wooden hull, the ship has remained more or less the same since it sank around 400 BCE.
